National Provincial Cup was established and organised by the Samoa Rugby Union; it has been the backbone of local rugby for many years and continues to be the measuring stick for Provincial Rugby. The main objective of the National Provincial Cup: “To Develop and PromoteProvincial Union Rugby in Samoa”The history of this most significant tournament on the SRFU Calendar goes back many years with the Morris Hedstrom Shield and the domination of one union – Apia Union. There have been many developments since the days of having the ‘tree in the middle of the park’ to the inclusion of new unions like Atua I Saute and Apia West, plus the revival of the old in Safata, Itu o Tane and Falealili. This tournament is not just a stepping-stone for our local talent into Provincial Rugby, but it is the opportunity for the players to showcase their talent in pursuit of their aspirations to become Manu Samoa players. |
