Upolu Samoa beats Tautahi in PRC Finals Rehearsal PDF Print E-mail

19 May 2008 - Upolu Samoa convincingly won its PRC finals rehearsal against Tautahi Gold 26-10. The win also means the finals will be played in Apia.

Savaii Samoa’s narrow 13-14 loss to Tau’uta Reds the day before meant winner Upolu Samoa won hosting rights to the finals.

Upolu Samoa with a superior kicking and attacking game cemented its favourites tag heading to the PRC finals this Friday at 5pm.

In a physical battle up front, Upolu Samoa gradually wore down its Tongan opponents heading to the break with a narrow 9-3 advantage. Gaining forward ascendancy and with flyhalf Roger Warren’s kicking game on song, Upolu’s dominance allowed space for dangerous backs Notise Tauafao, Samisone Moala and David Lemi to make incisive and telling breaks.

Tautahi Crowned: Pacific Rugby Champion PDF Print E-mail

23 May 2008-Tonga’s Tautahi Gold strikes the rugby jackpot in Samoa. Tautahi Gold wooden spooners in 2007 claims Pacific rugby trophy of supremacy for 2008—the Pacific Rugby Cup.

 

The final in front of a near capacity Apia Park crowd was played in true Pacific style. Ruthless in the forwards and unforgiving in the rucks and mauls with plenty of spot tackles. In this trench warfare Tonga’s Rugby World Cup star Nili Latu stood out. First to the breakdown he forced a constant stream of turn-overs, amongst the backs he was a mini-cyclone creating havoc or frustrating Upolu to errors in general play.
